I had a chance to walk our fields Friday evening to see how the berries are doing after 3 days of picking.
In the front, best picking is available with the Eberhardt, Dixi, Rubel, Stanley, and Jersey varieties (rows 2, 3, 6, 8, and 9); be sure to enter the front field by the shed; best picking is from the middle to the pond. (The other 5 varieties have berries that you can taste, but slow picking otherwise).
Many of the "easy-to-see, easy-to-access" berries have been picked in the back field. Picking is still available with the Jerseys; I have marked the paths with tags where there are berries. Some Olympias have also been tagged. Rubels in the south part of the field also have berries. Very slow picking with Pacifics and Pembertons in the back; best for tasting.
We are closed Sunday due to the heat warning. This will also give our berries and sunflowers a chance to ripen for the following week. We do have we-pick berries available if you are short on time or want to avoid the heat Saturday.
